Sainte King Constantine Equal to Apostles was a Roman Emperor (Constantine I the Great) through whom Christianity became a dominant religion in the state. Churches were built all over the country and at times old heathen temples would be dismounted for that. Saint Helena Equal to Apostles is the mother of Emperor Constantine I. For her activity of spreading Christianity Helena was canonized as equal to the apostles. Few women were honored like that. Marina (Margaret) of Antioch, an early Christian Saint, a daughter of a pagan priest, at the age of twelve rejected all secular temptations and adopted Christian faith, at the age of fifteen was subjected to tortures and executed together with other Christians. Archangel Michael is called a “prince” and the “leader of the army of the Lord” in Scripture; he is the main champion against evil in the world and revered as a defender of all orthodox Christians from visible and invisible enemies and evil spirits. The pious widow Anna the prophetess, eighty four years old, who served God by fasting and praying being in the temple together with the elder Simeon met infant Jesus Christ and recognized Him; she preached the Good News about the Messiah to all who had been waiting for Jesus Christ coming to the earth

Saint Martyr Valentine in the times of Christian persecution refused to bring offerings to pagan gods and was executed for that. Saint Martyr Eugenia the Blessed performing Christian feats acquired the gift of healing. Saint Martyr Elizabeth the Blessed founded Martha and Mary nunnery in Moscow and dedicated her life to charity, helping the poor and sick. Saint Apostle Andrew the First Called is a follower of Jesus Christ, the first among His twelve disciples. Saint Boris the Blessed together with his brother Gleb is the first Russian saint canonized by Constantinople Church. The Martyr Faina, a holy virgin, dedicated herself to God since she was a young girl and died for Christ as a martyr. The Reverend Maxim the Greek translated many Christian writings into Slavonic, struggling for purity of faith was imprisoned and exiled.

Saint Peter and Theuronia of Murom are prayed to for family well-being, happiness in marriage and for giving children. On these saints’ memory day, July 8, it is a custom to perform engagements, weddings and wedding feasts so that the marriage would be strong and safe.

This icon portrays Saint Prophet Elijah, a messenger of God’s revelation. In a young age he dedicated himself to serving God. Called to the prophetic ministry he became fervently devoted to the true faith and piety. Holy Apostle Andrew the First Called is portrayed in the center of the icon. He is a follower of Jesus Christ among His twelve disciples. The Apostle Andrew is called the First Called because he was the first disciple of Jesus Christ. The icon also portrays saint martyr Love who witnessed about Christ even facing death and was executed together with her sisters named after the Christian virtues – Faith, Hope and their younger sister Love. The icon portrays Prince Vladimir the Great, Equal to the Apostles, the Baptizer of Rus, who in 988 introduced Christianity in Kievan Rus as the official religion and whereby predestined the further spiritual development of the Russian people. Prince Vladimir combined his pagan ferity of passions with a spiritual profundity, wisdom and hearty kindness. The icon portrays saint martyr Love who was executed together with her young sisters Faith and Hope. In spite of her young age the sisters “…fearlessly confessed their faith in Christ, did not recant this faith for the sake of different earthly pleasures promised to them and did not retreat before horrible tortures…”
